Spring has officially sprung, and we’re so ready to refresh and renew after a long, dark winter. To help our dear readers plan a much-deserved recharge, we’ve rounded up Escape Brooklyn’s favorite wellness & spa getaways in Upstate NY.
From inclusive resorts with full service spas to nature-embracing fitness retreats to a la carte treatment facilities, these are the best relaxation destinations in Upstate New York.
1. Valley Rock Inn & Mountain Club, Sloatsburg NY
Newcomer on the hospitality scene, Valley Rock Inn has everything you’d want in a relax-and-recharge getaway, and all within an Uber-able 30 miles of the George Washington Bridge.
Impeccably designed private cottages are available to rent for groups of up to 10. Identifying itself as ‘fitness-focused,’ amenities include a 75 foot pool, 7000 square foot gym, and hiking, biking and kayaking programs; there are also spin and yoga classes. Reward yourself for at day’s end at the VR Bar & Grill, serving produce from the estate’s own organic fields in Hudson Valley.
If you find it’s too much to enjoy in one stay, Valley Rock offers memberships to their Mountain Club that give you access year-round. Full opening May 1, 2019. Contact directly for pricing for overnight stays and memberships!
2. Glo Spa Woodstock, Woodstock NY
There’s no shortage of great places in stay in Woodstock, so pick your favorite hotel, cabin, or treehouse, and plan to devote an afternoon to self-care at Glo Spa Woodstock.
Try one of their oxygen facials to get your glow back after a long, cold, windy winter… or get a massage with a CBD upgrade for peak relaxation. For a beauty boost, Glo offers services like lash lifts and extensions, as well as an outpost of Le Shag Salon.
Whether you’re stressed or just beauty-obsessed, Glo has you covered.
3. Mohonk Mountain House & Spa, New Paltz NY
The Mohonk Mountain House has been go-to getaway for nature-starved New Yorkers since 1869. Overnight stays include access to the 60-foot indoor heated pool and extensive grounds, featuring hikes for a variety of abilities. Our favorite is the iconic Sky Top Tower hike, which trails Mohonk’s lake and climbs toward a mountaintop tower. Options for other outdoor activities are exhaustive, from horseback riding and water sports, to snowshoe hikes and disc golf.
To unwind from all that activity, pick a treatment or several from Mohonk’s smorgasbord of options covering everything from massages to skin treatments to energy therapy. The purchase of a treatment includes access to all spa amenities, including solarium and verandas, eucalyptus steam room, dry rock sauna and heated mineral pool.
If you’re planning a trip, check out our recent recent winter feature for some travel inspiration! Accommodations include meals and start at $765/night for double occupancy. Day access to the Spa is included with the purchase of treatment. Day passes for grounds and amenities also available.
4. Buttermilk Falls Inn & Spa, Milton NY
The full service spa at Buttermilk Falls offers a wide variety of massage options, from deep tissue and hot stone, to targeted treatments like their Cellulite Massage and Healing Raindrop Treatment. Body, facial and nail therapies are also available to customize your experience. A solar-powered dry sauna, eucalyptus steam room, and geothermal endless pool offer plenty of excuses to extend your stay.
Accommodations range from standard guest rooms to private cottages. The 75 acre estate also houses a working farm and apiary, supplying organic produce to onsite restaurant Henry’s. There’s also an animal sanctuary – because what’s better for your mental health than petting farm animals?
Views of the Hudson River provide a stunning backdrop for this blissful upstate escape. Rooms from $300/night in peak season. Treatments from $90.
5. The Lodge at Woodloch, Hawley PA
Okay, so it’s technically not in New York, but this Poconos getaway is also within the three hour radius of NYC, and it’s pretty darn magical. With treatments running from the traditional, such as the Deep Tissue Massage, to the truly luxe like the Caviar Facial, you’re sure to find a cure for what ails you at The Lodge at Woodloch. Their Aqua Garden includes soaking pools with hydromassage waterfalls, indoor pool, and outdoor year-round whirlpool. The spa also offers FLOAT therapy and sleep treatments.
The Lodge is a full service adults-only resort. Overnight packages include meals, with several delicious dining options to choose from. Rates for overnights begin at $500 per night. Spa treatments start at $140; day packages available!
